About Andrew Griffith

Personal life

Andrew has been married wife, Barbara, for 27 years and they have two children – both now at University – a black labrador and an energetic cocker spaniel. Home is in the heart of the constituency near Petworth in West Sussex.

Career before Parliament

Andrew had an unusual route into politics and wouldn't consider himself a 'career politician'. He spent over 25 years working in business and joined Sky where he spent most of his career - eventually serving its customers as the youngest FTSE 100 Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Operating Officer.

During Andrew's time at Sky, the business grew its customer base from 3 million to 30 million viewers. Andrew also served as a Non Executive Director and then interim Chairman of Just Eat for which he was awarded Non-Executive Director of the Year in 2018 by The Sunday Times.

Parliamentary career

Andrew was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Arundel & South Downs at the December 2019 general election after being selected in a competitive process by local members.

Following boundary changes which added Midhurst and other rural communities in the north of the Chichester District to the constituency, Andrew was re-elected at the 2024 general election with one of the largest majorities of any Conservative Member of Parliament.

In Parliament, Andrew has served on the Science & Technology Select Committee, the House of Commons Procedure Committee and is the founder and Chairman of cross-party groups on Dark Skies and the Wines of GB.

In 2021 he introduced a Private Members Bill which aimed to attract driving record penalty points for offences under the Vehicle Excise and Registration Act 1994.

In 2022, he also introduced a Private Members Bill to require dog keepers to register a dog’s DNA on a database to support investigations into dog theft.

Ministerial service

Although his most important role is working to represent his constituents, Andrew has been proud to be asked to serve his country in a number of important Ministerial roles:

  • Minister for Policy and Head of the 10 Downing Street Policy Unit
  • Parliamentary Under Secretary in the Department for International Trade (Exports Minister)
  • Economic Secretary to HM Treasury (City Minister)
  • Minister of State for Science, Innovation and Research

In opposition, Andrew currently serves in the Shadow Cabinet as Shadow Secretary of State for Science & Technology.
