Andrew Griffith, MP for Arundel and South Downs, says that he is excited by Arun District Council’s bid to the Levelling Up Fund and is giving it his wholehearted support.
The council are putting together an application for the Arun Trail – a cycle path which follows the River Arun between Arundel and Littlehampton and will serve both leisure users and commuters as a traffic-free route connecting the two towns.
The details will be considered by the policy and finance committee next week before it is submitted.
The Government’s Levelling Up Fund is designed to invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK. Nationally, more than £4.8 billion will be spent to support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport projects, and cultural and heritage assets.

“I am pleased to be backing Arun’s long advocated bid to the Levelling Up Fund. A new traffic-free leisure and commuter route has enormous potential because it will open up businesses and tourism along the whole length of the Arun Valley. And it will broaden the ways in which people can access the majestic South Downs National Park from the coast, and vice versa.
“Just like Cornwall’s successful Camel Trail, which attracts more than 400,000 users a year, an Arun Trail will encourage more people to enjoy cycling and walking, attract visitors, and bring in new opportunities for young businesses and ventures that fit in with the trail such as cycle hire and maintenance, events and tourism. I am hugely excited about it.”
