Andrew Griffith has added his voice to local residents and Angmering Parish Council in opposing a planning application which will erode the green gap between Angmering, Rustington and Poling.
Writing to the planning authority, Arun District Council, Andrew Griffith said that he sees no merit in the proposal to build 133 houses on greenfield land at Ham Manor on Station Road in Angmering. He has warned that there is a clear consensus of opposition by the community, including himself and Angmering Parish Council.
The MP is concerned that the development is not driven by local housing need which is already being met through substantial development in the immediate area and sustainable plan-led policies in the neighbourhood plan and Arun District Local Plan.
The planning application is also seeking to build on land which is defined as countryside and protected by policies in the Local Plan.
Angmering has taken a substantial amount of new development in the last few years and the infrastructure has yet to catch up. Andrew Griffith has pointed out that further development will add pressure to the community and its services, including healthcare and school places.
Andrew Griffith said:
“This is another example of the wrong development in the wrong place. I oppose the development at Ham Manor.
“It is clear that Angmering’s infrastructure would not be able to support this proposal, and any approval would represent an attack on the important ‘green gaps’ which define our towns and villages.”
