Andrew Griffith MP, Member of Parliament for Arundel & South Downs, has welcomed new Government funding which has been awarded the Amberley Museum in West Sussex.
The funding, worth £433,766, was granted to Amberley Museum by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, for urgent maintenance and infrastructure work at the popular West Sussex attraction.
The funding is part of a £128 million scheme made available by the Government to support access to arts and culture in areas with low levels of cultural engagement, in addition to support library access and urgent maintenance on museums.
Amberley Museum, opened in 1979 and visited by thousands each year, will utilise the new funding in restoration of the site’s Bagging Shed area which forms a major part of the attraction’s original chalk and lime works.
Commenting on the funding, Andrew Griffith MP said:
“This new funding to support arts and culture in our communities is brilliant news for our local area.
As we celebrate English Tourism Week, I am delighted that Amberley Museum, part of our growing tourism industry in West Sussex, has been awarded this funding to facilitate its growth and conservation.”
