I was delighted to walk part of the Sussex Hospices Trail at the weekend with a loyal group of Sussex Snowdrop Trust supporters led by Di Levantine, former GP, Dr Marco Cavaroli and ‘The Unforgettables’ who have done several amazing walks to help the charity including a non-stop 57km Ultra Challenge.
We started at Barnham Station and walked to Arundel making the most of perfect autumnal walking weather and taking in the lovely views along the way.
It’s an incredibly worthy cause and entirely reliant upon voluntary donations so if you see this post, please donate even the smallest amount. You can go to the JustGiving website and search for ‘AndrewGriffithMP’.
On Friday, I visited the community-owned-and-run Findon Village Store and Post Office to congratulate them on their Queens Award for Voluntary Service. This community success story encapsulate what is best about where we live and I am pleased to see this initiative thriving.
Having lobbied Ministers for action, I am pleased that the Government has announced a further crackdown on water companies polluting our rivers and beaches. The current upper limit for fining firms which unacceptably pollute our water is currently £250,000 per incident. Under new plans, this will be raised to £250 million per incident. Sewage in our water is unacceptable and the Government is taking strong action to sort it out.
The Government has taken decisive action on the largest issue of the moment: protecting everyone from the globally inflated cost of energy. Support offered to every household means all of us will get a £400 discount on our energy this year, and the bills for every household and business will be capped to provide valuable certainty. Do look out for criminal opportunists trying scams. These discounts are automatically applied and so do not respond to texts seeking money or your data.
