Arundel & South Downs MP, Andrew Griffith, has commended the Government for the recent progress update on Project Gigabit which will provide 68,000 rural premises in West Sussex with lightning-fast broadband.
In the Government’s progress update, it was confirmed that West Sussex would be part of the second phase of Project Gigabit and will receive up to £112 million of investment to improve the most rural broadband connections.
The Government has also announced that an additional 5 million UK premises have been added to plans to improve broadband, with 60% of the country on track to have access to gigabit-capable broadband by the end of this year and at least 85% by 2025. Minister for Digital Infrastructure, Matt Warman MP, highlighted in the announcement that this investment would be made alongside private-sector plans to improve broadband ensuring the public funds are spent only on rural areas that need it.
In addition to large-scale investment, communities in rural areas are also able form Community Fibre Partnerships to submit a joint-application for the latest phase of the Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme. The scheme offers vouchers for up to £1,500 per eligible household to improve their broadband, which can then be topped up to £4,000 by West Sussex County Council.
