Andrew delivered a statement to the Planning Inspectorate reiterating his strong opposition to the construction of 191 new homes on a Golf Course at Rustington Golf Centre in Angmering.
The Appeal hearing has been taking place this week in Littlehampton and comes after Arun District Council’s decision to reject the planning application. This, the MP said, was ‘absolutely the right decision’ taken by the council.
In his statement, read on his behalf by Angmering Parish Council Chairman Nikki Hamilton-Street, Andrew Griffith paid tribute to the new leadership at Arun ‘who are properly standing up for Angmering at last’. He said:
“My representation today is that this is the wrong development, in the wrong place and at the wrong time. And I would like to formally associate myself with the arguments put forward by Angmering Parish Council.”
He said the regeneration of Littlehampton and Bognor Regis will free up brownfield sites for sustainable development rather than large developments being built on green land and leisure facilities.
He also brought attention to the erosion of the green gap between villages and the fact there is not a credible plan to deal with the danger of the A259.
Andrew highlighted that local health services and schools are creaking under the pressure from existing residents as a result of rapid growth from housebuilding.
The MP’s statement concluded by asking the Planning Inspectorate to uphold Arun District Council’s decisions to refuse planning permission, giving regard to national, local and neighbourhood planning policies and the wishes of the community.
The Appeal hearing continues into next week.
