Arundel and South Downs MP, Andrew Griffith, has welcomed the Government’s new reforming healthcare plan which will improve access to GPs and prescriptions.
The new plan will focus on three main areas with new measures to improve access to healthcare. These include ending the 8am rush for GP appointments with a new system to book appointments immediately or signpost appropriate care elsewhere, extending funding for pharmacists to allow for a wider range of prescriptions and increasing the number of GP appointments available.
New funding available for pharmacists will mean that patients who need prescription medication will be able to get it directly from a pharmacy. This will include medications for earaches, sore throats and other infections.
The plan will introduce new technologies including better websites for patients to make requests online which will be more convenient for many.

“Today’s new plan is good news for local residents improving access to GPs and day-to-day healthcare for thousands across West Sussex.
This will boost improvements in local pharmacy provision, including in Henfield and Arundel, which I have been working hard with NHS Sussex leadership to secure.
Following my largest ever local NHS Survey, I know that booking appointments has been difficult for many, especially after the pandemic, so I am confident that this new Government action will make a noticeable difference.”
