Arundel and South Downs MP Andrew Griffith has welcomed the launch of subsidised bus travel for passengers with the introduction of a new bus fare cap of just £2 for the majority of journeys.
Stagecoach, Metrobus, Compass Travel and Brighton & Hove Buses are amongst the bus operators that are taking part on the scheme. It continues until the end of March. It will be up to the operators to decide if they wish to continue with it
The Government is providing £60 million to subsidise fares supporting families who have been impacted by an inflated cost of living. In rural areas a single fare to the nearest large town can cost as much as £5 for a single journey. The £2 bus fare cap is applicable to single journeys on all days and times.
Andrew Griffith MP said:
“The £2 price cap will be a help for everyone across West Sussex who uses the local buses regularly and might encourage others to take a bus instead of the car.
“Residents will be encouraged to hear that the Government is backing rural communities like ours.”
