Andrew Griffith MP, Member of Parliament for Arundel & South Downs, has celebrated news that all new homes in England will be built with gigabit broadband connections.
Announced by Ministers today [Friday 6th January 2023], the Government has amended building regulations to ensure that new homes constructed in England will be fitted with infrastructure capable of ‘lightning-fast’ gigabit broadband – the fastest available in the UK.
This news comes at the start of the year when behind-the-scenes work will commence to deliver gigabit-broadband to 68,000 households and businesses across West Sussex. This work, funded by the Government’s £5 billion Project Gigabit, will see £112 million of investment across the County.
Access to fibre and gigabit broadband has increased dramatically across much of West Sussex since 2020, increasing by 53% in Mr Griffith’s constituency. Similarly, in the MP’s constituency, average download speeds have increased by 36% on average in the last two years.
Commenting, Andrew Griffith said:
“2023 will be the year for broadband in West Sussex.
It is excellent news that new homes will have access to superfast gigabit broadband. After pressing Ministers, I welcome this complement to the work about to be undertaken to upgrade 68,000 connections across West Sussex to gigabit broadband.
Whilst this work is still coming down the line, I am pleased that many residents in Arundel & South Downs are now enjoying significantly faster broadband.”
