Andrew Griffith will officially open a new pharmacy in the heart of Arundel’s high street on Friday 27th January.
Arundel Pharmacy is owned and run by local independent pharmacist Martin Chisanga who will be filling a gap of almost 20 years since the high street last had a pharmacy.
A long-running campaign by residents – steered by Colin Stepney and June Barker – gathered thousands of signatures which indicated the need and support for a second pharmacy. Residents told them that they found it difficult to access the LloydsPharmacy at Arundel Surgery, which is away from the town centre and located on the other side of the busy A27.
Arundel is a major tourist town because of its heritage, castle, riverways, and many independent retailers. The town welcomes thousands of tourists every year, some of whom also need to access non-prescription medicines or personal care items during their visit, and is another reason for a presence on the high street.
The Arundel Pharmacy will also be able to alleviate the burden on the busy GPs by providing clinical advice, as well as issuing over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses. The shop will also stock a range of personal care products and general medicines.
Andrew Griffith said:
“This is great news for Arundel’s residents who have been actively campaigning for a second pharmacy in the heart of the town. Martin Chisanga has my full support.
“It will be a privilege to officially open Arundel Pharmacy and to welcome Martin and his team to Arundel where I know they will receive the warm gratitude and custom of local residents.
“It is important for us all to support small businesses on our high streets, but it is also important to have the right businesses, which is why I am so pleased that Arundel has a pharmacist in the town centre once again.”
