Andrew Griffith MP joined a special Sunday service of ‘Celebration and Thanksgiving’ at St Mary’s Church in Thakeham (29th January).
The parish service was presided over by the Bishop of Chichester Martin Warner and marked the completion of a building renewal project. The church’s new extension provides vestry space, baby changing and toilets as well as upgraded lighting, heating and electrics throughout the church which have modernised the space. The interior of the church has been given a new layout to improve access and provide more flexible space so that the church can be used beyond Sunday services.
The building work was undertaken by Valley Builders Ltd.
The project design was awarded a ‘highly commended’ at the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards 2022 to Vallis and Hall Conservation Architects.
Andrew Griffith said:
“It was a pleasure to join the Sunday service at St Mary’s and share in giving thanks for the new facilities. It is now a bright and warm space for the community to enjoy.
“Worship has taken place on the site for almost one thousand years so terrific to see these modifications to benefit parishioners for decades to come.”
