Andrew Griffith MP was given the honour of opening a new pharmacy in the heart of Arundel on Friday (27th January).
The MP cut the ribbon to officially declare the pharmacy open and welcomed the new owners on behalf of the whole community of Arundel, watched on by residents including Arundel’s Mayor and local traders.
Arundel Pharmacy is owned and run by local independent pharmacist Martin Chisanga who will be filling a gap of almost 20 years since the high street last had a pharmacy. He was joined by his wife Debbie and family and friends for the special occasion.
Arundel is a major tourist town because of its heritage, castle, riverways, and many independent retailers. The town welcomes thousands of tourists every year, some of whom also need to access non-prescription medicines or personal care items during their visit and is another reason for a presence on the high street.
The Arundel Pharmacy will also be able to alleviate the burden on the busy GPs by providing clinical advice, as well as issuing over-the-counter medicines for a range of minor illnesses. The shop will also stock a range of personal care products and general medicines. It will apply to be included on the NHS Presciber List in due course.
Andrew Griffith said:
“This is great news for Arundel’s residents who have been actively campaigning for a second pharmacy in the heart of the town. Martin Chisanga has my full support.
“It was a privilege to officially open Arundel Pharmacy and to welcome Martin and his family to Arundel where I know they will receive the warm gratitude and custom of local residents.
“It is important for us all to support small businesses on our high streets, but it is also important to have the right businesses, which is why I am so pleased that Arundel has a pharmacist in the town centre once again.”
