Andrew Griffith MP, Member of Parliament for Arundel & South Downs, has welcomed news that the Government has confirmed upgrades to Brighton Hospital will continue as part of a £20 billion upgrade package.
The New Hospital Programme has continued to support the completion of the Brighton Trauma, Tertiary and Training (3Ts) redevelopment scheme, which will provide modern facilities for staff and patients in more than 40 wards and departments.
The scheme will deliver state-of-the-art facilities for a diverse range of services including medical wards, critical care, neurosciences, stroke service, imaging, fracture amongst others. Over 200 inpatient beds will be moved from 19th-century buildings into brand new accommodation within the hospital, and 65% of beds in the new buildings in single, en-suite rooms. The rest will be in single-sex, four-bedded bays.
The New Hospital Programme will continue to support the local NHS with the build over the coming years, which will also include a new Sussex Cancer Centre.
Commenting, Andrew Griffith MP said:
“Everyday, the Royal Sussex County Hospital provides vital support to patients across our area, and I know just how vital this site is to helping local residents get the care they need.
These upgrades are brilliant news for local residents. I look forward to working closely with hospital leadership to deliver the improvements and with the wider NHS Sussex management to secure access to GPs and pharmacists.”
