Andrew Griffith MP has welcomed the announcement of £10 million government funding for brand new, hydrogen powered buses to be used to connect rural communities in West Sussex.
The county was one of just 25 councils in the country to benefit from the scheme which will see almost a thousand zero emission buses hit the road and rural areas prioritised for support.
The funding comes from the second round of the Government’s ‘ZEBRA’ scheme which will see new electric buses in towns, villages and cities across England, including the most rural parts of the country, many of which will get zero emission buses for the first time.
The new investment will make local bus fleets more efficient, more comfortable and more sustainable while improving the local journeys that so many people rely on.
Andrew said:
“Representing the most rural constituency in West Sussex, I know how vital buses are in connecting communities. I’m a huge bus supporter and have regularly campaigned for more frequent and reliable services in West Sussex. As well as eliminating pollution – important for communities such as Storrington – these buses will be brand new with all the ‘mod cons’ like USB ports and replacing the old diesel buses.”
