Arundel & South Downs MP, Andrew Griffith, has welcomed the start of a new administration at Arun District Council led by Cllr Shaun Gunner and the Conservative Party group on the council.
Last night, the Conservative Party group at Arun District Council secured control of the administration with Cllr Shaun Gunner elected by councillors as the Leader of the Council. This shift in power was facilitated by the Conservatives’ victory in two crucial by-elections in Bognor Regis and Littlehampton at the local elections held on May 6th.
The Conservatives have most recently campaigned for an end to delays around regeneration within the Arun District, pushed for a more significant focus on green issues and called for a reduction of costs spent on agency staff within the organisation.
Over the coming days, the new leader of the Council will appoint councillors to Chairmanships, leading the new committees responsible for governance that were implemented by the previous administration.
Andrew Griffith MP said:
“I welcome the start of this new administration at Arun District Council and congratulate Cllr Shaun Gunner on his election as Leader of the Council. The previous administration have left Arun District Council in a mess with too much housing development and none of the infrastructure to support it. This was in addition to two years of no progress, focusing on wasting money on a committee system rather than delivering for our community. I look forward to working closely with the new team to improve the situation for local residents.”
