The Rt. Hon. Liz Truss MP, Secretary of State for International Trade, addressed Sussex business leaders at Wilton Park in Wiston House, West Sussex, on Friday 16th July, for the inaugural SussExport – a one-day conference focussed on helping to put Sussex businesses on the global map.
Andrew Griffith, Arundel & South Downs MP, and Tom Cargill, Chief Executive of Wilton Park welcomed Liz Truss and delegates to the conference. Andrew is a member of the Wilton Park Advisory Council (WPAC) and appointed by the Prime Minister as Net-Zero Business Champion, leading businesses towards COP26 in November and making their commitments to be net-zero by 2050.
Liz Truss addressed a senior group of business leaders, Department of International Trade, The Hon. George Brandis QC Australian High Commissioner, Huang Long Nguyen Ambassador of Vietnam to the UK, Jaspreet Singh Sukhija First Secretary of High Commission of India, The High Commissioner of Kenya to the UK, and West Sussex MPs.
Wilton Park, based at Wiston House, is an executive agency of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office supporting British foreign policy priorities that are core to the UK’s public diplomacy work. It was established in 1951, and this year marks its 75th anniversary.
Chief Executive, Tom Cargill and Chair, the Right Honourable Gisela Stuart, Baroness of Edgbaston, opened the SussExport event, referencing the historic house and traditional marketplace of Sussex, saying the “past is wonderful, but the future is exciting”.
This inaugural event from Wilton Park, sponsored by West Sussex County Council and the Wiston Estate, opened up a dialogue with the Sussex business community, connecting them to global leaders to support business growth, and putting Sussex firmly on the international map of places to do business with. The event was a series of workshops, presentations and networking and a showcase of the broad spectrum of manufacturing and innovation.
