Arundel and South Downs MP, Andrew Griffith, met local farmers and National Farmers’ Union (NFU) representatives at a roundtable meeting in Bignor on Friday.
Friday’s meeting was hosted by farmer Will Tupper at Parsonage Farm in Bignor. Andrew met farmers from Wiston, Petworth, Angmering, and Battle to hear their views on a range of issues including the challenges of food production, farm tenancies, carbon credits and fuel.
Andrew Griffith said:
“I value the regular dialogue with local farmers and am always happy to support them by taking back their comments to Westminster. I fully share farmers ambitions to see the UK more self-sufficient in high quality food production whilst protecting our South Downs landscape and habitats.”
Notes: Farming has an important role in shaping the countryside. More than 80 per cent of the South East is classified as rural, and NFU members manage around a fifth of the land in the Arundel and South Downs constituency, employing well over 2,000 people.
