Andrew is inviting West Sussex ‘Homes for Ukraine’ hosts to join him for an online meeting to discuss the latest developments and issues affecting the host families and their guests.
The MP is keen to hear from host families in his constituency, who have so generously provided accommodation and supported those fleeing the war in Ukraine.
This week marks 6 months since the war in Ukraine began, and the start of an unprecedented refugee programme to bring hundreds of families to safety here in West Sussex.
Although the initial hosting programme originally asked for a minimum of 6 months, the vast majority of hosts are willing to continue hosting their Ukrainian guests. However, hosting families may have faced some unique challenges relating to rurality of the area, such as transport, as well as the education of the children, and ensuring that their Ukraine families have everything they need. West Sussex County Council – which has set up an excellent hub to help - has received £10,500 for every refugee from the government in order to provide the services required.
There is still the opportunity for West Sussex residents to become a host for the first time and it is a wonderful way to help out.
Andrew said:
“It is good to check in with generous host families to understand how they are coping and to hear what some of the common issues may be. With the war in Ukraine continuing, I wish to understand what practical as well as financial support is needed to ensure that our host families can continue providing sanctuary at this time.”
Hosting families wishing to join the meeting should email Andrew to register at [email protected].
